NEW DELHI: A car owned by a member of Parliament (MP) was stolen and its driver abducted on Friday night in Dwarka. Congress MP from west Delhi, Mahabal Mishra, was in for a rude shock on Friday when one of his cars — in which his son had gone to the local sports complex — was driven away, along with his driver, who is also the MP’s relative, by four armed men. The driver was later dumped at an isolated place after which he informed Mishra.
According to police, Vinay Mishra, the MP’s son, had gone to the sports complex in Dwarka Sector 10 in the Ford Endeavour car which was being driven by Hari Mohan. When he came out of the complex around 9pm he noticed that one of the car’s tyres was punctured. He asked Hari to get him another car from the MP’s residence. ‘‘Hari brought a Qualis car after which Vinay left. The driver then started fixing the puncture. Shortly, a man standing nearby called someone over the phone giving him instructions to reach the spot. As soon as Hari was preparing to leave, the unidentified man shoved him inside and held him at gunpoint. Three other accomplices also got into the car and overpowered Hari. They tied his hands and gagged him. Even as Hari warned that the car belonged to an MP, the assailants reportedly slapped and harassed him,’’ said a senior police officer.
In his statement to the police, Hari said he was dumped by the assailants in a deserted area in Najafgarh near Jharodar Kala. After walking several kilometres, he used a labourer’s cellphone around 12.30am to call the MP.
