SAUDI ARABIA: Saudi Arabia suspended BlackBerry messaging services on Friday, users said, as concerns spread across the Middle East and parts of Asia over security issues with the popular smartphones.

However, Indian government is hopeful of resolving the standoff with RIM soon, telecom minister A Raja said.
Users in the highly security-conscious Gulf state with a rigid Islamic social code said the service was interrupted at around 0930 GMT, but four hours later they were back online. Telecoms regulators were unable for comment.

Employees of mobile phone providers STC and Mobily, asking not to be named, told their companies had not been officially notified of a ban or of timing.
