The US today said it supports freedom of peaceful expression and non-violent protest everywhere in the world, but blamed inaccurate reporting in India for creating an impression that Washington had issued a strong statement on anti-graft protests there.State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland refuted reports that the US had given any statement in direct support of Anna Hazare's movement, that had prompted a strong reaction by India.A large numbers of Indoreians rallied behind Anna Hazare the day after his arrest by the Delhi police. On Wednesday, everybody from schoolchildren to senior citizens took to the streets in support of the Gandhian and his fight against corruption with Krishnapura Chhatri and Regal Square remaining the epicentre of the protest.
Indore woke to reverberating chants of Vande Mataram Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Anna Hum Tumhare Sath Hain. Devendra Khandelwal and his six associates who are on fast unto death at Krishnapuri Chhatri were greeted by school children in the morning with patriotic songs to express their solidarity with Anna. Throughout the day, the protestors found support from across the section of people who came in small groups to spend time with Anna supporters on fast.
